Portable Storage Options
While at the wedding, many digital photographers like to use either a laptop computer or some other
device to store the images. There are many options available for this purpose, and they come in three
basic styles. Below is a list of options comparing the advantages and disadvantages of each.
✦ Laptop: This is perhaps the most versatile of all the options listed here. Among its advantages are
its many other uses, a large LCD screen, fast download times, and its ability to burn DVDs for
backup. Disadvantages include its large size, heavier weight, and it’s somewhat fragile.
✦ Image tank: This is simply a small hard drive (from a laptop computer) encased in a box with a
slot for inserting memory cards. Many of these devices have an LCD screen for viewing the images.
Advantages include its light weight and LCD screen for viewing. Among its disadvantages are that
it’s easily damaged from being dropped, resulting in complete image loss.
✦ DVD burner: This device is a stand-alone DVD drive with a slot that accepts memory cards. You
simply insert your memory card and press a button to start the device burning the images onto a
DVD. The advantages of this device include its extremely small size, its light weight, and its unlim-
