Part III ✦ The Business of Digital Wedding Photography
Plasma TV
The plasma-screen TV (see Figure 14-3) is a very attractive alternative for those with a medium- to small-
sized showroom. Screen sizes range from 30 inches to over 50 inches. The advantages of plasma screens
are that you can easily color calibrate them just as you would any computer monitor, and they are rated
to have a life span of 30,000 hours without noticeable color shifts. This equates to 16.4 years of running it
five hours per day. In the current market, a medium-sized 42-inch pro-quality plasma display and wall-
mount bracket will cost roughly $3,000.

Cost comparison
If you compare how much it will cost to run the two displays for 30,000 hours, (assuming a bulb life of
400 hours and a cost of $200 each) the digital projector will require 75 bulb changes at a total cost of
$18,000 for the projector and all the bulbs. The plasma display will cost only the original price of $3,000.
In reality, neither of your displays is likely to last that long before you move on to something else.
However, the cost savings with the plasma display are obviously far greater over time.
