A virtual local area network (VLAN) is a logical network segment created within a physical network infrastructure. It enables the partitioning of a single network into multiple isolated virtual networks, regardless of the physical connectivity of devices.
All network devices, including computers, printers, and servers, are connected to the same physical network switches.

The network administrator assigns specific ports on the network switch to each VLAN. For example on the switch above
VLAN01 is on ports 1 - 8
VLAN02 is on ports 9 - 16
