Each web site on the World Wide Web has an address called a URL or Uniform Resource Locator. The URL itself can be broken down into its basic elements. Let’s take a closer look at an example.

Protocol: The method used to access or retrieve the information from the server. When browsing the web it’s usually https. With HTTPS, communication is encrypted using Transport Layer Security (TLS) or, formerly, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).
