Data Transfer Rates
Data transfer rate, also known as data rate or bandwidth, refers to the amount of data that can be transmitted over a network, from a disk drive or other device in a given amount of time.
Lets say I had an internet connection of 40mbps (megabits per second) and wanted to download a 70megabyte file. First you need to make sure both units are the same. Since the file is measured in megabytes, you need to convert the connection speed of 40megabits per second to megabytes per second.
40 megabits per second ÷ 8 = 5 megabytes per second
So how long will it take to download?
To calculate this use
time to download = file size ÷ data rate
So...
Time to download = 70MB ÷ 5MBps (Mega Bytes per second) = 14 seconds
What about a 5 Giga ...
