To convert a decimal number to hexadecimal, you divide the decimal number by 16, noting the remainder.
For example, lets convert 150010 to hexadecimal.
First, divide 1500 by 16
1500 / 16 = 93 (ignore the decimal point)
To find the remainder, multiply your answer by 16
93 x 16 = 1488
Subtract the answer you get from 1500
1500 - 1488 = 12
The remainder is 12
So, going back to our conversion we can write:
1500 / 16 = 93 r 12
Next, divide 93 by 16
93 / 16 = 5
Find the remainder
5 x 16 = 80
Subtract the answer you get from 93
93 - 80 = 13
The remainder is 13
Going back to our conversion we get
93 / 16 = 5 r 13
Write it under the previous divide step
1500 / 16 = 93 r 12
93 / 16 = 5 r 13
We can’t divide 5 by 16 so we ...
