It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

InDesign is one of the few programs out there that will let
you apply a gradient to type and have that type still edit-
able (most require that you convert your type into a graphic
before you apply a gradient; and once it’s converted you
can no longer change the font, leading, spacing, etc.). To do
this “live type gradient,” you just set your type, click on the
text frame with the Selection tool to select it, then
in the Toolbox click the Formatting Affects Text
icon (the “T” just below the Fill/Stroke swatches).
Now open the Gradient palette (it’s found under the
Window menu), create
