Unicast architectures
Even for large portfolios and many end users, it is possible for unicast deployments to be done well and they can get the job done more than adequately for a majority of domain names. If you are a registrar or a large web host and you have a lot of end user domains under management, most of these can use unicast nameservers. I can tell you from experience, most of your users won't notice or care.
Even single servers that are confined to one network location can be optimized to the point where they are barely distinguishable from an anycast deployment to a majority of users and applications.
