The RFC 2317 method
Many DNS experts, including Peter, view the more common RFC 2317 method as technically inferior, and they may be right. As I mentioned, the following method is prone to misunderstandings and breakages, but it does work and, to be frank, in my entire career, I've never seen a client not use it.
In other words, this method of setting up reverse DNS is still prevalent and will probably remain so. Even if you decide to do the delegation-for-each-IP-address way, the odds are you will encounter this method when others employ it, so you'll need to understand how it works. If you are going to function as a DNS operator or provider in any capacity, you are almost certainly going to encounter this.
