Numbering and delegation schemes
Here's where we cover the single worst executive decision I ever made, close to the beginning of my career in the managed-DNS provider business. One that I'm still paying for today.
The year was 1999-ish. The NASDAQ was on fire, Bill Clinton was a lame_duck president, and everybody was bracing for Y2K... One day, Colin Viebrock, one of my co-founders at easyDNS, looked up from his coding and said, "Are we going to just stack domain after domain on to the same nameserver delegation? After a while, that's going to be tens or hundreds or thousands of domains! (Provided we don't go bankrupt!)"
I thought about it. If we didn't do exactly that, what were the alternatives? "What are you suggesting?" I asked.
