I enjoyed working with NSD immensely while writing this section, and was very impressed with its speed and ease of configuration. At the time of writing we are running one NSD nameserver as a beta in our test environment (130,000+ domains) and it was the simplest nameserver variant to set up, import our data, and get into realtime sync with our environment.
NSD supports commonly used features that BIND does, such as DNSSEC and IPv6. Other than the need to convert one's config file format, it becomes, in my mind, one of the easiest drop-in replacements for BIND nameservers when seeking to implement nameserver heterogeneity.
