Most dynamic DNS clients use http GET method requests to send an update request to a middleware webserver run by the DNS provider. It seems appropriate here to include early tech reviewer Peter Van Dijk's comment on this:
You would hope, given Van Dijk's comment, that any dynamic DNS clients running today would at least use TLS to secure their connections via https://. However, my experience from running a couple of the oldest DNS providers in existence and perusing their request logs shows that there are a lot of legacy dynamic DNS clients out there who don't.
