It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

What Is IP Telephony?
IP telephony (IPT) allows the combining of separate voice and data
infrastructures onto a single, converged network. The resulting network can
support phone communications with the same quality and reliability as traditional
telephone company-provided circuit-switched voice networks. The biggest bonus
is that IPT also adds support for applications that deliver a richer, sometimes more
streamlined, communications experience to its users.
