IPT systems must be able to guarantee low latency. This delay is usually
measured in milliseconds. Latency of less than 150 milliseconds (for
one-way traffic) and less than 250 milliseconds (for round-trip or two-
way traffic) is generally considered the absolute ceiling for high-quality
IP voice services. It is the same level of delay that users get with circuit-
switched voice services delivered via satellite.
