Description
The col command is a postprocessing filter that handles escape characters and removes reverse linefeeds that are used to handle underlining, superscripts, and subscripts. Use col to convert reverse line motions into single-line combinations of backspaces and characters. col removes superscripts and subscripts from nroff output. It is particularly useful for filtering multicolumn output made with the .rt command of nroff(1) and output resulting from use of the tbl(1) preprocessor.
