We know from numerous studies over the years that the brightest thing in a photo is the first thing our eye is drawn to. If you’re shooting a portrait, the photo is about your subject, and that’s why for every portrait I shoot, I subtly brighten my subject’s face to make sure the viewer’s eye is drawn right where I want them to look. In the Lightroom app, you can literally “paint” light over your subject’s face and that does the trick nicely.
