Having your subject look directly at your iPhone camera is generally what we do in portraits—it creates an instant connection with the person viewing the shot, so it’s a really popular look. However, when you want to create a more “fashiony” look, have your subject look off camera (away from the camera lens). This gives an intentionally disconnected look, like the subject is either deep in thought or looking at a far-off scene, and is unaware or unaffected by you taking their photo.
