A clear sheet of glass isn’t going to do anything to make the sunlight pouring through it soft and beautiful. Put someone right in front of a window with the sun streaming through, and they may as well be standing on the other side of it, outside, because the quality of the light (which is bad) is about the same. You’ll still have harsh shadows and a squinting subject. That light, right near a clear, glass window, is just really nasty and harsh. However, if you back your subject away just 2 or 3 feet, it’s not nearly as bad. Back them away 6 feet or so, and all of sudden you’re getting some nice, soft ...
