You Don’t Have to Show the Whole Thing

Sometimes you’ll find that one part of what you’re standing in front of looks a lot better than trying to capture the entire thing—like these bamboo plants, for example. I think what makes this shot (taken by my wife Kalebra, with her iPhone) so awesome is that you’re seeing all the carvings and colors and details. The whole image has such a graphical look. If, instead, she tried to capture them entirely, you’d not only lose all this glorious detail, but you’d pick up a bunch of things you probably don’t want to see, like the tall buildings behind them, and the power lines in front of them, ...
