Videos are quickly becoming popular content to share online. As people continue to turn more to the Internet for both information and entertainment, videos serve to satisfy both of those needs. Video-hosting sites are popular tools for content creators because of the ease in social sharing.

Sites like YouTube and Vimeo are sharing services that allow users to create their own personal channel. These channels act as a place for users to hold multiple videos, and they can be made either private or public depending on the users' needs.

A brand can develop presence on YouTube or Vimeo by either uploading content or responding to other content. People who view the videos can rate the quality of the video and write comments. Videos with high popularity can be pushed to the top of the service's recommendation engine, creating greater likelihood of visibility. As videos are viewed, YouTube and Vimeo place related or recommended videos in a sidebar for user consideration.

YouTube was created by three friends from PayPal: Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim, who raised $3.5 million in venture capital to launch their open exchange video site in February 2005. Less than two years later, Google bought YouTube for $1.65 billion.
