83. What if I'm Stalked?
Social networks have security settings that can help prevent these issues. When online, the best way to approach security is to remember that anything you post online can be accessed by anyone regardless of whether you make it “private.” That said, as a brand that wants to establish its online presence, staying quiet isn't going to do anything to help your social media campaign.
Your social media campaign strategy should have an ultimate goal to build your brand. If your brand is built around a specific individual, chances of being stalked through social profiles do increase. However, this can be limited by taking the necessary precautions by not sharing more than what is necessary.
The easiest way to invite stalking is to use geolocation tools to place you at specific locations that do nothing to further your brand presence. If you tend to frequent locations that don't promote the brand, don't check in. Your frequency at these locations establishes a pattern in your habits that potential stalkers can study and use to their advantage later on. For example, if you check in at places such as “Home,” with your address listed on the application map, you're basically inviting other people to come visit.
