Foreword

Sometimes the stars do align, and when the publisher's editorial team approached me to write this book, I was five years in at Frame Concepts and had tested my conviction that visuals can indeed solve challenging business communication problems through actual client project delivery. Coincidently, I was forming my thoughts on this in the form of a speaking presentation and also some thought leadership with an infographic series on the topic'using infographics to talk about the effectiveness of infographics. So all the ingredients to write the book were in play.

But more importantly, my 20 years or so on the client side before forming the Frame Concepts visual solution agency was really the motivation for the book. It is the book I wish I had had as I struggled to use clever copy and stock photos and graphic and web design to explain and engage my audiences on subtle and complex subject matter and offerings. The importance and the timeliness of this book are driven by a casual glance around at even cutting-edge businesses' websites, marketing materials, and sales presentations. By and large, they are still a throwback to the attempt to look professional with stylized photos and catchy tag lines, but when you try to come to terms with the solution, you are forced to pore through dense and lengthy text.
