Data compression will never take place without a compression dictionary. From time to time, it might be necessary to rebuild an existing compression dictionary, so that the symbols accurately reflect the contents of the table. To truly understand compression and manage it effectively, one must understand how the contents of the dictionary are identified.
With an empty compressed table, data can be inserted over time. Initially, no compression dictionary will exist; but once the required number of rows has been inserted, the dictionary will start being populated. The population of the dictionary will coincide with the growth of the table, so we call this method of building the compression dictionary
