Db2 BLU Acceleration
This was introduced in Db2 v10.5, and significantly improved in Db2 v11.1. Db2 with BLU acceleration integrating innovative new technology, delivering exceptional performance and compression directed specifically at predictive analytical workloads. Db2 BLU speeds up reporting by a factor of 10x to 50x, with a compression factor of up to 10x, compared to traditional row-organized tables.
The following elements make BLU different from other columnar technologies:
- Compression duration: Data and indexes are compressed, and remain compressed, even through most predicate evaluations.
- Radix parallel sort: A faster sort method from Watson Labs, executed in column form.
