Standing by on Set
There should be someone from each department standing by on set. Sometimes this may only need to be one person. If it is a large production, the make-up, hair and costume staff usually have certain artists to look after, and it is not uncommon for everyone to be on set. This is mainly for continuity reasons, especially for films, when each scene is broken down into a series of sequences. It is important to know whether the coat was open or closed, or whether the hair was behind the ears or not. For the make-up department, a constant watch has to be kept for shiny faces as the lights and rooms get increasingly hot.
