Costume Designer
A costume designer has sufficient knowledge and experience to take full responsibility for all production requirements. There may also be a costume supervisor and assistants responsible for the everyday running of the production while the designer concentrates on the designing or planning, buying, making and hiring of costumes. As with other heads of department, costume designers have to know how to research their subject and how and where to have costumes made or hired. As well as familiarity with large costumiers they will need to find ‘costume makers’ – people who may work from home making clothes specifically for productions.
