Dressing Wigs
The hair on wigs and hairpieces will have been chemically treated and therefore will not have the same ‘life’ that natural hair has. It will have been straightened and pre-curled and will be, generally, easier to dress. However, it will need a firmer dressing as it will not have the lift that natural hair has.
Period hairstyles can be very complicated and it is helpful to have a systematic way of working. First, the hair is brushed through completely and divided into four sections: the top, the two sides and the back. Any hairpieces required will be attached next so that the side and front hair will cover the base. It is easier if the style is dressed from underneath up to the top and front.
