If a wig is necessary, discussions will have taken place between the make-up artist or hairdresser and the director, if only to check the budget. Unless the company has its own wig department, e.g. as opera houses do, an appointment will be made with a wig supplier. If possible the make-up or hair designer attends the fitting with the artist to discuss the colour and the dressing of the wig. If that is not possible discussions have to be conducted on the telephone. However, once the artist is at the fitting, they will also have ideas and preferences. It is important that the artist feels happy, and compromises may have to be made by all.
