View access to specific records
In many cases, we want to restrict access to edit and delete records belonging to other users, records but to give view access to those records. Access to the custom record is a great example of this. We don't want sales reps to be able to edit customer records belonging to other reps because an unethical sales rep would simply reassign another's customer to themselves. On the other hand, we want reps to be able to search the entire database prior to creating a new customer, in order to determine whether it is a duplicate.
