It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Chart of accounts
Accounts can be associated with multiple subsidiaries. The fact that subsidiaries can share accounts simplifies the list of accounts. Any transaction with that account will be recorded against the subsidiary referred to in the transaction:
