Keys to Success in Using Staged Delivery
Here are the keys to using Staged Delivery successfully:
Be sure that the product architecture supports as many of the possible future directions of the software as you can imagine.
Define the first delivery stage so that you can deliver it as early as possible.
Define the delivery stages in terms of themes, and be sure to involve developers intimately in defining the themes and the specific capabilities that make up each theme.
Deliver the theme releases in order of importance.
Consider whether pure Staged Delivery will provide the most benefit, or whether Evolutionary Delivery or Evolutionary Prototyping would provide more benefit. Carefully consider how you plan to handle customer change requests.
