A simple anamorphic lens consists of a
regular spherical lens, plus an anamorphic
attachment (or an integrated lens element) that
does the anamorphosing. The anamorphic ele-
ment operates at innite focal length, so that it
has little or no effect on the focus of the primary
lens it is mounted on but still squeezes the optical
eld. A cylindrical 2:1 anamorphic has no effect
in the vertical axis of the picture, but effectively
halves the focal length in the horizontal. A 50mm
