It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

Makeup Tests
It is very important to do makeup tests in pre-
production. The cinematographer should shoot
and view tests of all of the makeup “looks” for
specic scenes. Be sure to test blend areas around
wardrobe and hairline. If there are prosthetics
or appliances, wigs or fake beards being used,
be sure to shoot test footage to determine how
close these can be framed before the illusion is
destroyed. Nothing takes the audience out of a
scene like a badly shot fake beard!
