So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

As we have seen in previous chapters, when we
increase the gain of the sensor, we pay a price in
image noise. When more sensitivity is needed,
gain can be set to +3db, +6db, or even +9db
to get more exposure, but usually at the cost
of increased noise in the pictures. Gain lifts
the blacks, white, and midtones by the same
amount – exercise caution as it is easy to add
noise to the blacks or clip the bright areas using
gain.
