It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

ema cameras, as they don’t have high frequency
grain like lm does, enabling them to heavily
compress low contrast areas without a reduction
in the signal to noise ratio.
Wavelets offer some advantages over DCT. As
compression is increased and le size is decreased,
the image quality degrades more gracefully and
organically. Instead of ending up with ugly image
blocks, wavelet compression tends to let noisy,
low contrast areas of the image go softer ...
