In this chapter, we compared the distributed computing nature of an edge analytics application to distributed computing brought about by the introduction of the personal computer, distributed computing being a move away from a central mainframe computer. Although far from being a perfect analogy, this comparison drove home the point that information technology does seem to go back and forth from centralized processing to distributed processing.
