Chapter 3

In this chapter, we looked at the communication protocols used in edge analytics. We explored the radio frequency (RF) spectrum and looked at various applications and where they sat on the spectrum. We also discussed the difference between the analog use and the digital use of the word bandwidth.

We took a brief look at Bluetooth, as well as some of the long-range wireless technologies used by IoT and edge analytics applications. A look at the Friis transmission equation allowed us to make a case for lower or higher frequencies, depending on the application.
