Storing files such as documents and videos is one of the most important functions of a computer. Traditionally, this has been done on a local computer's hard drive. As more files are added, more storage is required. This usually involves buying more hard drives or other types of storage media.

Pushing storage to the cloud frees us up from having to purchase and maintain physical media. Cloud storage, as offered by cloud service providers, takes care of this. Cloud service storage is currently offered by companies such as Dropbox, Google, and Microsoft.
