By downloading and installing the libdvdcss system file,[8] you can create backups of any DVD movie discs you own by dragging and dropping from Finder the VIDEO_TS folders on the disc to your Mac’s hard disk (you can ignore any other files or folders on the DVD). Unlike apps that rip movies to your hard disk, copying the VIDEO_TS folder makes a 100 percent faithful copy of the movie, including its menu and chapter system.
However, playing the movie from within the backup folder is difficult: you must start the DVD Player app (ensuring no movie DVD disc is in the drive), click File→Open DVD Media, and select the folder.
