| Tip 337 | Wake Troublesome Macs |
If you open the lid of your Mac and find that it’s having trouble waking up—perhaps it refuses to let you type your password or perhaps the screen backlighting illuminates but the screen itself remains black—then simply close the lid for a minute or so and reopen it. Often things will work properly the second time around.
If after this the computer still refuses to wake, you’ll need to forcibly reboot your computer, which you can do by holding down the power button for five seconds. Once the computer has powered down, press the button again normally to boot.
If the wake-from-sleep problems continue, try resetting the PRAM—see Tip 184, Reset Hardware Settings.
