Forcing Your Macintosh to Sleep

If you know you're going to be away from your Macintosh, you can wait for your Macintosh to go to sleep automatically or you can make it go to sleep right away.

If you have a laptop, the fastest way to make it go to sleep is to close the screen.

Of course, you can't close up a desktop like a laptop, but you can define a hot corner on your desktop or laptop to tell your Macintosh to sleep when you move your mouse to that corner. Here's how to define a hot corner to put your Macintosh to sleep:

  1. Click the Apple menu and choose System Preferences. A System Preferences window appears.
