It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Advanced Validation
Validation can do more check the type and range of an entry. You can also look up a value from a range of possible entries. To see that in action, follow these steps:
Create a new worksheet and add the following values to a range of cells:
Hat,Shoes,Jacket,Shirts, andSocks.Select the range and name the range
ItemSettings.Return to the data-entry worksheet and select cell A2.
Choose Data → Validation and make the changes shown in Figure 20-5.
Click OK to apply the changes.
Now, entries in the Item column must match one of the values in the ItemSettings named range. Not only that, but Excel displays the possible settings in a drop-down list when you edit the worksheet, as shown in Figure 20-6.
