Social media sites — such as Facebook, Twitter, and Goodreads — provide you with helpful ways to interact with your current readers and to attract new ones. But every site has obvious limitations. On Twitter, for example, you can post only short messages, and you can’t be sure that your followers will see them.

On your own blog or mailing list (or with access to someone else’s), you can quickly and easily reach your audience in whatever format you want. Sending out an e-mail to promote your latest e-book, for example, is more likely to reach people than only tweeting about it.

This chapter describes different ways to promote your e-book via blogs and mailing lists. You don’t even need to have a website of your own. You can take advantage of other people’s sites and lists.
