At the end of the 20th century, Enron was one of the world’s largest corporations. It began in 1986 as a regional supplier of natural gas and grew into a dominant player in the energy trading business. All of that came to an end when it abruptly collapsed in 2001.

The price of a share of stock in Enron mirrors the spectacular rise and fall of the company. In April 1986, each of the 45 million shares of stock in the newly formed Enron Corporation sold for $37.50. By the end of 2000, there were 740 million shares valued at $80 apiece.
