Making It All Work Together
This chapter and the next are devoted to the topic of using the same (or at least compatible) software natively on two or more OSs. The idea is that using the same tools recompiled for all your OSs can make you more productive by enabling you to share files and use programs with a common user interface across OSs. This common user interface can also reduce the amount of time it takes to learn a new OS if you already use such cross-platform tools on your present OS. Therefore, I recommend using cross-platform tools even when you don't need to do so; choosing the more widely available tool might pay off in the future, if you decide to expand your stable of OSs further or replace an older OS with a newer one.
