International consortia and emerging standards

As you saw in the previous chapter, there are multiple consortia defining many aspects of IIoT today, especially in newer areas such as how IIoT devices communicate and are discovered. At the time of writing, there were still consortia being formed or realigning and/or changing names.

For example, the Open Interconnect Consortium (OIC) had become the Open Connectivity Foundation (OCF) and grown to over 300 members. OCF members were developing a specification, an open reference implementation (IoTivity), and a certification program.
