Discovery
Our recent discussions of big data solutions center on what are becoming
the “traditional” big data systems, to the extent that we have anything tra-
ditional in a new eld. By traditional big data, we refer to predictive analyt-
ics, machine learning, and other such technologies we have discussed. In
comparison with these technologies, discovery is distinct. It pulls together
the data from dierent sources, both structured and unstructured, and
creates a single environment in which users can nd the data they need
