Benets
We know that big data has benets; otherwise, we would not see com-
panies jumping on the bandwagon to participate in big data analytics.
Figure11.1 shows the potential expenditures on big data next year (2015)

to highlight the benets of big data. We will deal with concerns regarding
big data in Chapter12.
DATA SERENDIPITY
Data serendipity occurs when we nd new insights that we did not expect
to nd during our initial investigation. Since we recommend dening
our task before we start, how do we allow for fortuitous discoveries? We
should be aware that we have four kinds of “serendipity”:
