VARIABLE LENGTH SUBMASKS
Subnet masks are useful in internetworking operations, especially the variable length subnet mask (VLSM). This figure (which is a summary of a more detailed example from the Halabi reference) shows the idea of VLSM.
We assume an organization is using a class C address of 192.168.1.x. The organization needs to set up three networks (subnets) as shown in Figure B-15. Subnet A has 100 hosts attached to it, and subnets B and C support 50 hosts each.
