LOGICAL LINK CONTROL (LLC)

LLC can be implemented in a number of ways on a LAN. At its most basic function, it is used to interface the LAN functions with the user applications, typically IP. All IEEE 802 LANs require the use of LLC.

LLC can also be used for some rather elaborate connection management procedures and flow control operations. For example, one type of LLC allows the creation of connections between user stations as well as the use of positive and negative acknowledgments, sequencing, and flow control operations with sliding windows.
